American Express Co.’s Digital Focus

Yesterday, I was treated to a tour of Amex’s new digital operations headquarters,250 Hudson, a stone throw away from the Holland Tunnel.

The building is located at the heart of what entrepreneurs are calling Silicon Alley — better known for innovation than payments.

On the 6th floor, programmers and Amex marketers are able to draw on opaque walls they use as dry erase boards. It’s all very much a scene out of the movie The Social Network.

But, what the place really tipifies is the credit card company’s move towards digital payments and the transaction data behind them.
